NPBC Spotlight: Nutcracker Box

The Nutcracker Box is the newest North Pole Box Company Box.  Devin designed the original Nutcracker box ten years ago.  The nutcracker had a mouth that would open and close.  It was a hit.  Last Christmas, we redesigned the Nutcracker with refreshed artwork but a similar construction. We filled the Nutcrackers with thin mints and gave them away to friends and customers of Perfect Register. The Nutcracker Box is our most complex box.

We produce the Nutcracker Box at Perfect Register in conjunction with local printers.  The Nutcracker Box uses a cutting-edge printing technique to create a metallic effect.  We start by stamping a silver metallic foil onto blank paper.  This done with a hot copper die.  After the silver base is stamped, we collaborate with a local printing company to print the design over the silver. The areas of the Nutcracker that are printed over the silver foil appear metallic after the printing process. The printer then uses a technique called UV Coating. UV coating gives the paper a glossy appearance.  Spot UV applies the glossy finish to certain areas of the box.  Finally we emboss the paper to add texture and depth to the nutcracker's features. The combination of foil, printing, embossing, and UV coating help emulate the look of a classic nutcracker toy.

The next step is die-cutting.  Die-cutting cuts and creases the paper transforming the flat paper sheet into a box layout.  We remove the extra paper and poke out the mouth hole.  Now the Nutcracker is ready for gluing.  The bottoms of the nutcrackers are glued automatically on our inline gluer. The Nutcracker tops are glued by hand. We use liquid glue to ensure your Nutcracker Box lasts.

North Pole Box Spotlight: Tin Soldier Box

The North Pole Box Company Tin Soldier Box is on spotlight this week.  We will spotlight one of our five boxes each week until Christmas.  Yes that means Christmas is five weeks away! We are very excited.

The Tin Soldier Box was one of the first boxes ever made at Perfect Register.  Devin Duckett began designing a Christmas box as a promotional piece and Christmas gift in 1997.  Devin designed the Tin Soldier Box in 1998. This box has very simple artwork, but its simplicity makes it very striking.  The classic tin soldier toy is a Christmas tradition.

All the production of our Tin Soldier Box happens in-house at Perfect Register. The Tin Soldier starts out as blank paper.  The first step is foil stamping. We use a custom copper die with the Tin Soldier artwork to stamp metallic foil onto the paper.  The die is mounted onto our Brausse 1050 SEF foil stamping press.  We heat the die to over 250 degrees and stamp red, silver, or gold metallic foil onto the blank white paper. This creates the shiny design on the front of the Tin Soldier Box.

The next step is die-cutting.  We create a custom die-cutting die with the shape of the nutcracker box.  A die-cut die is made from wood and steel rule.  Sharp rule creates cuts in the paper, and blunt scoring rule makes folds.  Perfect Register crafts die-cutting dies by hand.  Our Heidelberg cylinder press presses the paper against the die to cut out the Tin Soldier.  After the extra paper is removed, the box is ready for gluing.

After die-cutting, the Tin Soldiers are glued and folded.  Liquid glue helps the boxes stay glued permanently. We bundle the boxes and ship them to you!

The Tin Soldier Box is sold in gold, silver, and red.  It is the perfect home for some homemade cookies, caramels, or nuts.  This box is elegant and a fantastic value.  You can buy a Tin Soldier Box for less than a fancy Christmas Card.  Order yours today!
